Meet the Winners of the BUILT BY GIRLS Make My Case Design Competition.

We were blown away by the outpour of submissions and how just incredibly talented our community is. From the entire BUILT BY GIRLS team, thank you to everyone who took the time to design and enter the Make My Case design competition.

We reviewed every single submission and we were so impressed by the creativity, thoughtfulness, and meaning behind each design. It was an extremely difficult decision to only pick 2 winners! Having said that, the 2 winning designs exceeded our expectations in the areas we were looking for: originality, simple yet powerful, aligned with our brand’s mission, and a design that is phone case ready. Without further ado, we’re excited to announce the winners and showcase their winning designs.

Their designs will be available as Speck phone cases sold in Verizon stores nationwide and online starting Fall 2019!

Meet Dyllen Nellis

WINDESIGN1.png

Hi, I’m Dyllen. I am a female artist, performer, and innovator. I have many passions including fine art, design, musical theatre, computer science, entrepreneurship, and psychology. This Fall I will be attending Stanford University, where I hope to use my voice through design, tech, and theatre to help elevate others and innovate for social good.

The meaning behind the design:
My design has a strong theme of sisterhood, diversity, and empowerment. I wanted to create an artwork that would inspire positivity and collaboration in others. Like the values of BUILT BY GIRLS, it needed to show that girls are fully capable of being leaders and makers of change. So in my design, women of all ethnicities, shapes, and sizes are happily interacting with one another.

Meet Shannon Li

Shannon-Highlight.png

My name is Shannon Li, and I am from Brooklyn New York. I am currently a rising sophomore at the University of Michigan studying to become a software engineer, UX Designer, or creative technologist. I am a deeply rooted activist, fighting for equity, justice, and equality for marginalized communities. I hope to integrate technology with art and create products for social impact.

The meaning behind the design:
I strongly believe young women, women of color, women of the LGBTQ+ or any marginalized community should feel empowered to break barriers, by not only striving to fight for their seat at the table, but by building their own table. We should not be taught to fit a mold, but to build and create our own future.
